Aside from Down syndrome, what are two diseases that occur when an abnormal number of chromosomes develop?

by Cures For Stuff

An abnormal number of chromosomes is sometimes called trisomy. I need (at least) two other diseases aside from Down syndrome that result from trisomy.

Trisomy 18 – Edwards syndrome
Trisomy 13 – Patau syndrome
XXY – Klinefelter’s syndrome

babies with trisomy 18 or 13 usually do not survive and spontaneous abortion is common. for those who survive, if they can survive for 1 yr it’s already very like exception

Klinefelter syndrome affects male and they get three sex chromosomes with an extra X…

There are several sites that are very helpful for you to find different chromsome problems.

I have included 2 that will help you the most.
Both are interactive and explain in detail about genetic problems.

The first allows you to click each chromosome and read all there is to know about that chromsome.

The second, Genetic Alliance, has lots of good links. If you click on the Disease Info Search you can search various diseases and chromsome problems. Clicking T for “trisomy” will result in searches for
Trisomy 9
Trisomy 13
Trisomy 18
Trisomy 22

However, do not forget that there are other chromsome problems such as Translocation and Mosaic.

I have included our website at the bottom if you are interested in mosaic Down syndrome.
